Jennifer Lawrence is the hot new name in Hollywood thanks to the rising buzz of The Hunger Games and I personally think she is definitely going to go on to great things. When I read her interview for Glamour magazine she seems so refreshingly normal - untainted by her new found fame, having already been Oscar-nominated for Winter’s Bone, and so not Hollywood in a good way.
She portrays Katniss Everdeen in the up and coming Hunger Games - based on the phenomenal books. Its a refreshing new heroine for the cinema going generation, “she’s a hunter,” Lawrence says of Katniss, “she’s the first hero we have who doesn’t think at any point she isn’t going to die. She’s completely vulnerable.”
The film, released next Friday here in the UK, looks set to be a massive Box Office smash, if not THE smash of the year. Already taking in $130 million tickets in its first weekend reportedly.
The film is set in a dystopian, after-apocalyptic US where the Capitol reigns supreme over a dozen zoned off districts. Due to a revolt in one District, those in power in the Capitol devise the Hunger Games as punishment. The Games require one girl and one guy from each district, chosen at random, to compete for their lives and only one sole survivor can win.
Like a future Gladitorial fight, the ‘players’ are manipulated into killing each other and battling, but the moment of brutality are juxtaposed with touching, compassionate moments. “I’m no different”, muses Lawrence, We watch people’s tragedy for entertainment. We watch people’s lives fall apart and we sit on our sofa’s and eat popcorn. Once you lose touch with your empathy, there’s no telling what could happen.”
Keep your eye on this girl not only is she hot property she definitely rocks that outfit better then Kim Kardashian.
The Hunger Games is released in cinemas in the UK 23rd March.
Interview quotes I do not own; from a newspaper interview she gave.

I have just gotten in from my best friends house where we watched two Japanese animated films - I cannot for the life of me remember whether they were Manga or Anime my apologies - they were called Paprika and Summer Wars. I have always been an avid fan of Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli films and it is a common interest that me and my best friend share. There is something about the hand drawn skill of a Japanese film and the weird and wonderful narratives they oftenuse. I could happily say that Summer Wars (Mamoru Hosoda) is on of the best films I have seen in a while due to its humour, artistic flare and modern War Games type storyline resulting in an interesting film about the use of virtual and social networks in our daily lives.
